    • Thueme, Labaere tough inside in Skippers' win vs. Wayne County

The Skippers decided to abandon their perimeter shooting and dominate play in the free-throw lane in the second half Saturday, Feb. 11, against Wayne County CCD.

Post players Carlie Thueme, a sophomore from Richmond, and Erica Labaere, went to work scoring and rebounding against the smaller Wildcats. That was the difference in a 59-46 come-from-behind MCCAA Eastern Conference victory.

SC4, which trailed 26-24 at halftime, out-scored the Wildcats 35-20 in the final 20 minutes of play for its ninth victory of the season. The Skippers improved to 5-5 in the league and 9-12 overall. Wayne County (1-9, 2-15), beat the Skippers 56-53 in the first meeting.

Thueme powered inside for a game-high 20 points, 14 in the second half. She had 15 rebounds, two assists and three steals. Romeo grad  Labaere chipped in with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Tamira McCoy-Motton was the third Skipper in double figures with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Caitlyn Carlson, a sophomore from Armada, added eight points and freshman Dyman Huss, a Capac grad, had seven assists.

The Skippers return to action 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Oakland CC.
