The road to the National Junior College Athletic Association men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will go through Port Huron in 2017 and 2018.
St. Clair County Community College will host two women’s (districts G and H) and two men’s (districts 9 and 10) basketball tournaments in the next two seasons at the SC4 Fieldhouse. Each tournament will bring four teams – a total of 16 – to downtown Port Huron.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our new facility, and to bring student athletes, their families, friends and fans into our community,” SC4 athletic director and men’s basketball coach Dale Vos said. “This is something that wouldn’t have been possible in our old facility.”
The SC4 Fieldhouse, which is scheduled to open in the fall, is located in the heart of downtown Port Huron and a short drive from several dining and lodging options. The Fieldhouse will seat about 1,500 fans when it first opens, and about 2,000 after a future phase of renovations.

SC4 was awarded the tournaments this past week, following a bid process in late May.
The tournaments will be held March 9, 10 and 11 in 2017, and March 8, 9 and 10 in 2018. The district winners advance to the final 16 of the NJCAA Tournaments, which will be held in Danville, Illinois (men) and Harrison, Arkansas (women).
Teams from across Michigan, as well as Ohio and Indiana, compete in the districts. The SC4 women’s basketball team is the reigning District H champion.
SC4 also was awarded the Michigan Community College Athletic Association golf tournament, which it has hosted each of the past two years, in 2017 and 2018. It will be held May 8 and 9 in 2017, and May 7 and 8 in 2018, at the Port Huron Elks Golf Club.
