SUMMARY:Gallery: Detroit Historical Society WWII Propaganda Posters Traveling Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Gallery hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.Gallery closed: Nov. 22 to 24 \n\n\n\nStop by the SC4 Fine Arts Building galleries to view WWII Propaganda Posters\, a Detroit Historical Society Traveling Exhibit. \n\n\n\nBefore television\, visual advertising was dominated by talented illustrators. During World War II\, the U.S. Government leveraged these artists’ talents to create posters that delivered important messages in a single glance. \n\n\n\nViewed both as art and as historical artifacts; these posters had a very real job during the war. They encouraged and informed the average American on how he or she could help win the war. Posters promoted the purchasing of war bonds\, growing and canning food\, and taking jobs to aid in wartime production. The posters in this exhibition were chosen for their diverse themes and messages\, as well as their graphic appeal. They reflect the themes of recruitment\, patriotism\, conservation and security.  Everyone could do their part to win the war\, and these posters illustrated how.

SUMMARY:Gallery Opening Ceremony: Guest speakers Scott Fernandez and Patricia Frank\, SC4 history professors
DESCRIPTION:SC4 history professors\, Scott Fernandez and Patricia Frank\, will discuss the 28 “Fighting on the Home Front: Propaganda Posters of World War II” posters on display in the Fine Arts Galleries. The poster collection is part of a Detroit Historical Society Traveling Exhibit. \n\n\n\nSeveral different U.S. Government organizations created and distributed posters. The Office of War Information was chief among them\, as it was their primary duty to inform citizens about the war. The Office of Price Administration assisted in the rationing program by controlling ceiling prices. The War Manpower Commission balanced the labor pool for agriculture\, industry and armed forces. All of these departments had their own posters and distributed them from Maine to Hawaii. \n\n\n\nFighting on the Home Front: Propaganda Posters of World War II includes 28 authentic\, fully framed American war posters. Fifteen posters feature “extended labels” which explore the themes presented in the poster\, and well as the career of the artist who created it. Also included are four informational panels that detail the government institutions that produced posters\, the nature of propaganda\, rationing\, and more. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free. \n\n\n\nLocation: SC4 Fine Arts Theatre

SUMMARY:New Beginnings Theatre presents – I Remember When
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this wonderful production by Mrs. Debra McNair at the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre. \n\n\n\nThis stage play will portray several riveting vignettes that will seek to capture and document both factual and historical occurrences in history. These dramatized vignettes will endeavor to extract significant and poignant moments that impacted and changed the narrative in the lives of black people in America. \n\n\n\nIt will endeavor to arouse a penetrating emotional response that may evoke a stream of passion as we relive those moments in time. But these emotions will be yielded by the sounds of hope and victory as we salute the historical and ionic General Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
