Board Policy 4.1

Granting of Continuing Education Credits


 It shall be the policy of the Board of Trustees of St. Clair County Community College to award Continuing Education Units through the Community and Business Services area in those comprehensive offerings of non-credit job upgrading and career/professional development programs and activities. These Continuing Education Units shall conform to commonly accepted standards for the granting of such CEU’s. Administration shall develop appropriate procedures for the implementation of this policy. 


  1. CEU’s shall be granted in such programs and activities as short courses, seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures, forums, and tailored training. This shall not exclude other appropriate activities from the granting of CEU’s. 
  2. CEU’s shall not be awarded for hobby-type or recreational non-credit type programs or activities. 
  3. CEU assignments shall be made by the directors in specific departments and approved by the Dean of Instruction or his designee prior to the specific offering. 
  4. One CEU may be earned by satisfactory participation in ten contact hours of a non-credit program that meets specified instructional criteria. 
  5. Appropriate records will be maintained and available to students through the Registrar’s Office. 
  6. Cumulative transcript for CEU programs will be maintained by the College Registrar.
