Safe Zone

Safe Zone

SC4’s Safe Zone aims to provide a safer, more welcoming and inclusive environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community. The project will develop a network of allies through education, awareness and advocacy.

Who are Safe Zone allies?

The term “Safe Zone” or “Safe Zone Trained” designates people who are understanding, trustworthy and supportive of the LGBTQ+ Community. These people are willing to talk about LGBTQ+ issues and are trained on how to address them sensitively. Allies may display a Safe Zone Trained certificate of completion or Safe Zone Trained logo in their workspace and/or a virtual “sticker” on their email or within their online classroom.

Interested in becoming an ally?

Safe Zone training is an opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender, and sexuality and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. If you are a faculty or staff member who is interested in becoming “Safe Zone Trained,” please contact Brandis Hubbard at bahubbard@sc4.edu to find out more about how you can complete the two-hour, online, self-paced training.
