SC4 and SVSU Explore Expansion of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs in Port Huron

Port Huron, MI — St. Clair County Community College (SC4) welcomed members of the executive leadership team from Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) to campus on Monday, January 26, for a productive and forward-looking discussion focused on expanding access to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the Port Huron area.

The visit centered on conceptual plans to bring SVSU academic programs to SC4, including an evaluation of SC4’s capacity, institutional readiness, and the strong support of the surrounding community. Throughout the day, SVSU leaders met with SC4 administrators, faculty, and staff to explore opportunities for collaboration that would benefit students and the region.

“The energy and engagement throughout the visit made it clear that this partnership has tremendous potential,” said SC4 President Kirk Kramer. “SVSU’s leadership was impressed by the strength of our college and our community, and we are excited to work together to expand educational pathways that allow students to earn advanced degrees right here in Port Huron.”

“We have enjoyed a productive working relationship with SC4 for many years and we are excited by the prospect of expanded collaboration,” said George Grant Jr, President of Saginaw Valley State University. “Throughout our visit, it was clear that SC4 shares SVSU’s commitment to being part of the community, not separate from the community. We see considerable potential for increased degree offerings for residents in St. Clair County and beyond.”

Following the visit, leaders from both institutions agreed to move forward with drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will outline shared goals, general concepts, and intent for the collaboration. A joint announcement regarding the SC4–SVSU partnership is anticipated during the winter semester.

More information will be shared as planning continues and the MOU is finalized.
