PORT HURON, Mich. — The St. Clair County Community College (SC4) volleyball team (9-3 overall, 1-0 MCCAA Eastern) handled business in the MCCAA Eastern Conference opener on Wednesday night against visiting Oakland Community College (4-5 overall, 0-1 MCCAA Eastern). The Skippers downed the Owls 3-1 inside the SC4 Fieldhouse for the squad’s eighth-straight triumph.
SC4 will look to make it nine wins in a row on Monday night (September 14) on the road against Schoolcraft College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from TrinityElite Sports Center in Livonia, Mich.
The Skippers had set victories of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13 in the first, second, and fourth sets, respectively. The Owls were able to send the match for a fourth set via a 25-22 triumph in the third stanza.
After hitting just .136 in the opening period, the Skippers elevated that number to .286 in the second, which consisted of 12 kills and two errors on 35 attempts. While the second set was best in terms of attack percentage, the squad had their most kills in the final frame (14) thanks to 38 attacks and four miscues.
Of the Skippers’ 50 kills in the win, sophomore Brooklynn Haack (New Baltimore, Mich. / Anchor Bay) had 13, while fellow sophomore Ava Oleski (Lexington, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) managed 11 kills. Sophomore Bella McCamman (Otsego, Mich. / Otsego) chipped in with nine. Oleski’s .323 hitting percentage, which came on only one error, was the best of anyone on the team in the win.
In the serving department, both McCamman and freshman Kylie Traver (Roscommon, Mich. / Roscommon) provided three aces, with freshman Chloe Johnson (Macomb, Mich. / Utica) notching a pair.
Five total Skippers reached the 10-dig plateau, led by sophomore Grace Ropes (Armada, Mich. / Armada) with a career-best 21 digs. Her previous career-high was 17 in a 3-1 loss to North Central Michigan College on September 13, 2025. McCamman (14), Traver (13), Haack (12), and sophomore Addison Bolen (Maple Rapids, Mich. / Carson City-Crystal) with 10 were the other four Skippers with double-digit digs.
Sophomore Ava Hill (Chesterfield, Mich. / L’Anse Creuse North) wreaked havoc on the defensive side, as she totaled seven block assists. That was also a career high for Hill in just her third match played of the 2026 campaign. Oleski provided four block assists, while four other student-athletes managed to get two each.
