PORT HURON, MI — In celebration of America250, the St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Theatre Club will present the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical 1776 on Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19, at 7 p.m. in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre.
Originally presented during the nation’s Bicentennial celebration, 1776 brings the founding of the United States to life through the story of the Founding Fathers and the historic debates surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The musical combines humor, drama and memorable music to explore the personalities, disagreements and difficult decisions that shaped the creation of a new nation. The production offers audiences an opportunity to reflect on the ideals, challenges and events that helped shape American history.
“America250 gives us an opportunity to reflect on the history and ideals that have shaped our country,” said Sarah Rutallie, Chief of Staff at SC4. “Through 1776, our Theatre Club is bringing an important chapter of that history to life in a way that is engaging, entertaining and meaningful for our community.”
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, 1776 has remained a celebrated work of American musical theatre since its Broadway debut. The SC4 production commemorates the 50th anniversary of the musical’s original Broadway production while giving audiences an opportunity to experience this important chapter of American history through live theatre.
Performances will be held at the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19. Admission is free and open to the public.

St Clair County Community College (SC4) was founded in 1923 and is the only public higher education institution in the thumb of Michigan.
