PORT HURON, Mich. — The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) released another round of weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon in numerous sports. Once again, a trio of St. Clair County Community College (SC4) student-athletes banked recognition from the league, including freshman Tessa Freeland (St. Clair, Mich. / St. Clair) as women’s soccer Eastern Conference Player of the Week, freshman Giorgio Cicero (Modica, Ragusa, Italy / Liceo Scientifico Enrico Fermi Ragusa) as men’s soccer Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and sophomore Bella McCamman (Otsego, Mich. / Otsego) as volleyball Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
TESSA FREELAND – WOMEN’S SOCCER
One game after finally netting her first goal of the season following numerous high-quality chances, Freeland broke out in a big way at home against Alpena Community College this past Sunday. Freeland scored three goals for a hat trick (first collegiate hat trick), while adding three assists in the Skippers’ record-breaking 17-0 win over the Lumberjacks. That was the largest shutout victory in women’s soccer history at SC4.
The freshman’s nine points (with goals counting for two) all came in the first 15 minutes of game action. She scored goals of her own in the second, third, and fifth minutes, while also assisting on tallies from Libby Noble (twice) and Grace Twiby.
After the performance, Freeland ranks second on the team with 15 points (as of September 15), just one behind Twiby’s 16. Her seven helpers are a team best.
GIORGIO CICERO – MEN’S SOCCER
Cicero recorded his first collegiate hat trick in SC4’s 10-1 win over Alpena Community College this past Sunday. Cicero’s first goal made it 2-0 Skippers in the 27th minute, which was an unassisted tally. His other two came after intermission in the 47th and 56th minutes, respectively. His three goals were a team best in the triumph and he did his damage on eight shots, with five being on target.
The freshman from Italy, as of September 15, paces the SC4 squad with four goals to his credit in just three matches thus far in 2026. His 14 shot attempts rank third on the team behind Luis Carlos Farinas and Marcos Gutiérrez Sánchez.
BELLA McCAMMAN – VOLLEYBALL
The Skippers’ volleyball team had just one match last week, but McCamman made it count in the 3-1 win over Oakland Community College last Wednesday, September 9. The sophomore racked up nine kills on the offensive side, while providing three service aces to tie for the team lead in that category.
Defensively, the outside hitter and defensive specialist notched 14 digs (3.50 digs per set), which was second on the team for the match. McCamman also handled the ball well with just one reception error to her name in the victory.
Her performance helped the Skippers to set wins of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13 against the Owls inside the SC4 Fieldhouse.
Freeland, Cicero, and the rest of the men’s and women’s soccer teams will have two matches this week on the road. First will be a test at perennial region favorites Schoolcraft College on Wednesday, September 16. Following that, the squads will head to Plymouth, Ind., for a Saturday affair with Marian University Plymouth.
Meanwhile, McCamman and the volleyball team will be within the comforts of the SC4 Fieldhouse for the remainder of the week. The Skippers will host Macomb Community College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., before hosting the second Skippers Quad on Saturday afternoon.
