The Color of Freedom
January 19, 2026 at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
The Color of Freedom is this year’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day play, in collaboration with New Beginnings Theatre. Written once again by Evangelist Debra McNair, The Color of Freedom promises to be our most ambitious production yet, showcasing singing, dancing and spoken word pieces, and featuring a diverse cast with several SC4 students.
The play features historical characters and pivotal events in Black history—from the trans-Atlantic slave trade to the civil rights movement of the 1960s—offering audiences an immersive look at the people and moments that shaped Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. It all centers around the titular question: What is the Color of Freedom?
The Color of Freedom is free and open to the public on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the SC4 Fine Arts Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and seating fills quickly, so be sure to arrive early and experience this powerful production.
