My name is Kevin Warnke. I’m attending St. Clair County Community College, where I am pursuing an associate degree in nursing. It’s been a long road to get where I am today, but on Friday, May 4, I will be graduating and starting my career.
I started college a little later than most. I was 35 and didn’t know what I wanted to do. I signed up for different classes and found I wanted to do something in the medical field. I decided I wanted to become a registered nurse.
Over the past two years in the nursing program, I have had many highs and lows. There have been many days where I wanted to quit, but everyone in TRIO kept pushing me toward my goals. TRIO has been so helpful – I remember when the HESI test was full and I couldn’t make an appointment to take the test. I called and said I needed help, explaining there were no available testing times. In less than an hour, I had a date and time to take the HESI. I was so grateful for the help the TRIO staff gave me that day.
Ever since, they have been there to listen to me. They have always pushed me and told me I could do it. TRIO also has helped me with tutoring along the way. Anytime I needed additional help, they found someone that could help me.
