Author and USC professor to serve as keynote speaker at SC4 commencement Friday, May 5

St. Clair County Community College will welcome University of Southern California Associate Professor of Communication Dr. Douglas Thomas as the keynote speaker for its 93rd annual Commencement Ceremony. 

The ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5, in McMorran Place Main Arena, 701 McMorran Blvd., Port Huron. It is open to the public. No tickets are required.

SC4’s Commencement ceremony will be available in a live web stream from the college’s website for those who can’t attend. The stream will be available on desktop and mobile devices.

Dr. Douglas Thomas

Dr. Thomas is a published author who specializes in critical theory and cultural studies of technology, and he has testified before U.S. Congress on issues of computer hacking, cyberterrorism and critical infrastructure protection.

He is the author of numerous books, including Reading Nietzsche Rhetorically, an examination of the role of representation in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, and Hacker Culture, a study of the cultural, social and political dimensions of computer hacking.

He is the founding editor of the quarterly international journal Games & Culture: A Journal of Interactive Media, which publishes theoretical and empirical research about games and culture within the context of interactive media. He was co-editor of two books: Technological Visions: The Hopes and Fears that Shape New Technologies; and Cybercrime: Law Enforcement, Security and Surveillance in the Information Age.
