‘Blindspot’ book discussion
October 15, 2021 at 10:00 am to 11:30 am

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion presents a virtual book discussion on Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People by Mahzarin R. Banaji and Anthony G. Greenwald.
The virtual Zoom discussion will be led by facilitators Dr. Leah Howell and Dr. Portia Watkins from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15. To reserve a spot and receive the link, email dei@sc4.edu by Friday, Oct. 8.
The reading explores hidden biases that we all carry from a lifetime of experiences with social groups — age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexuality, disability status or nationality.
The discussion will provide a structured opportunity for individuals to reflect upon the reading, including their own identities and biases, and encourage shared dialogue in the reflection. An individualized overview will be developed and provided for the reading.
Reading the book is not a requirement to attend the session. For those wanting a hard copy of the book, email dei@sc4.edu. An ebook version also is available, off-campus users will be prompted to login using their SC4 Portal username and password.
