PORT HURON, Mich. — The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) released its Athlete of the Week honors this afternoon in several different sports, and three St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Skippers received recognition from the conference. Freshman Tyler Leach (Otisville, Mich. / Lakeville Memorial) was the men’s cross country honoree, while fellow freshman Samantha Langolf (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) obtained the women’s cross country award. Finally, sophomore Grace Twiby (Middlesbrough, England / T6) earned the nod for Player of the Week in women’s soccer.
TYLER LEACH – MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Leach began his collegiate career with the overall victory in the four-mile race at the Skippers Cross Country Showcase on Thursday, August 20. He completed his trek through the Goodells County Park course in 21:56.2, which was 45 seconds faster than second place Caleb Wesseldyk of Kellogg Community College.
The freshman also helped SC4 to the overall victory in the team results, while being one of six Skippers to place in the top 10 for the event.
SAMANTHA LANGOLF – WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Langolf was another student-athlete that made her collegiate debut at the annual Skippers Cross Country Showcase in Goodells, Mich., on August 20. She completed the five-kilometer run in 19:39.2 to win the race and help secure the top spot for SC4 in the team results. Langolf’s time was 28 seconds quicker than anyone else in the field.
She was one of four Skippers to come home inside the top 10 for the 5K meet.
GRACE TWIBY – WOMEN’S SOCCER
After scoring just two goals across 13 games a season ago, Twiby already doubled that total just two matches into the 2026 season. She tallied four goals over the weekend against Parkland College and Morton College, including an opening-night hat trick in the 4-0 victory over the Cobras.
The sophomore started her run in the sixth minute of the first match on Saturday night vs. Parkland, before adding a second tally in the 19th minute. She finished the hat trick in the 71st minute.
On Sunday afternoon against the Panthers, Twiby once again opened the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute, which ended up being the game-winning marker as the Skippers recorded their second-straight shutout of the weekend.
Leach, Langolf, and the rest of the men’s and women’s cross country teams will next be in action on Friday, September 4, as part of the IWU Twilight Invitational in Marion, Ind. Meanwhile, Twiby and the women’s soccer squad will have two matches in New York later this week against Genesee Community College (Thursday, August 27) and Erie Community College (Friday, August 28).
