PORT HURON, Mich. — Despite already competing in one event this season, the St. Clair County Community College (SC4) men’s and women’s cross country squads both appeared in the 2026 NJCAA Division II Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll for the pre-season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday evening. The women’s squad checked in ninth, while the men’s team was ranked 23rd in the nation.
On the women’s side, five teams from Region 12 (Grand Rapids Community College in fourth, Muskegon Community College in fifth, Macomb Community College in eighth, SC4 in ninth, and Lansing Community College in 10th) appeared in the top 10, with two more (Southwestern Michigan College in 21st and Mott Community College in 22nd) also being ranked within the top 25.
For the men, Lansing leads the region in fourth, followed by Macomb in sixth, Southwestern Michigan in 10th, SC4 in 23rd, and Muskegon in 25th to make five schools from Region 12 included.
The Skippers’ women received 237 points and jumped from 11th in last season’s final rankings to ninth, while the SC4 men earned 49 points and were not among the top 25 to end the 2025 cross country campaign.

The Skippers already started their seasons on August 20 with a pair of team victories at the annual Skippers Cross Country Showcase held at Goodells County Park in Goodells, Mich. SC4 also had the two individual winners, both in their collegiate debuts. Samantha Langolf (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) won the women’s five-kilometer race, while Tyler Leach (Otisville, Mich. Lakeville Memorial) claimed the top spot in the men’s four-mile event.
SC4 will have its first opportunity to build off its respective rankings this weekend, as the two teams head to Marion, Ind., for the IWU Twilight Invitational on Friday night. The women’s race is set for 7 p.m. (originally 6 p.m.), while the men’s race will follow at 7:40 p.m. (originally 6:40 p.m.).
