Meet Alec Wixson, the TRIO Student of the Month for October

Alec Wixson

Alec Wixson has found that getting involved at St. Clair County Community College can lead to great things.

Taking time to help other students in the Math Center has helped make him a better student, and he has already been accepted at Western Michigan University, where he plans to transfer.

Alec is the TRIO Student of the Month for October, and here is his story in his words:

I originally had no idea what I wanted to do for a career. In my junior year of high school, I took a class that allowed students to learn about the insides of computers and take them apart to see how they functioned. I found an interest in how simplistic yet complex computers work. I started at SC4 in the fall of 2014 with the engineering transfer program. In the winter semester I found a spot in SC4’s Math Center as a tutor. With the constant everyday use of math I’ve strengthened my academics.

I am in my third year currently, taking the final classes I need. I am, along with the tutoring I do in the Math Center, for a second semester helping in a classroom as a student instructor. I have only three more courses (minus those I am currently taking this semester) and then I will be ready for transfer.

At Western, I hope to enroll in their Accelerated Master’s Program for Computer Engineering.

I want to thank my family for supporting me through the stress and strain, TRIO services for all the opportunities I’ve found from little advice or seminars they offer, and all those in the Math Department of SC4 for all the help I’ve gotten and all the knowledge I’ve learned from their expertise in the field.

I want to thank everyone who has had a part in my life for helping me find the means to make the goal possible!
