PORT HURON, MI — St. Clair County Community College (SC4) will host a Naturalization Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the SC4 Fieldhouse, welcoming and celebrating individuals as they officially become citizens of the United States.
The ceremony, held on Constitution Day, marks the fourth consecutive year SC4 has partnered with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to host a naturalization ceremony on campus. Federal Judge Kimberly Altman will preside over the ceremony.
The ceremony will feature a keynote address from Dr. Joseph Ofori-Dankwa, a business professor at Saginaw Valley State University and a naturalized U.S. citizen. His personal experience will offer a meaningful perspective on the journey to becoming a U.S. citizen and the significance of this milestone.
“Becoming a U.S. citizen is an extraordinary accomplishment, and we are honored to celebrate this important moment with these individuals and their families,” said Dr. Pete Lacey, Chief Collaboration Officer at SC4. “Hosting this ceremony on Constitution Day makes the occasion even more meaningful as we recognize the newest members of our American community and celebrate the many experiences, backgrounds and perspectives they bring with them.”
Last year, nearly 150 individuals representing more than 40 nations completed the naturalization process during the ceremony held on the SC4 campus. The ceremony provides an opportunity for family members, friends, students, faculty, staff and community members to witness and celebrate this important milestone.
Constitution Day, observed annually on September 17, commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. The date provides a fitting setting for a ceremony in which individuals formally take the Oath of Allegiance and become citizens of the United States.
SC4 encourages members of the community to attend the ceremony and join in recognizing the newest U.S. citizens and their families.

St Clair County Community College (SC4) was founded in 1923 and is the only public higher education institution in the thumb of Michigan. SC4 is a comprehensive community college that provides certificates and degrees for employable skills and college credits that can be transferred to a four-year college or university.
