Three St. Clair County Community College cross country runners were honored recently for their work in the classroom.

Meghan Sylvia, Chandler Kielbas and Ryan Najor were each named Scholar All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association Cross Country Coaches Association.

Runners with a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher during the fall semester qualified for the honor.

“It’s unbelievable,” SC4 cross country coach Charles Stallworth said. “This entire group of student-athletes we have here at SC4, we were blessed to have them. The awards couldn’t have gone to a better group of leaders. They all lead in their own way, and these three contributed to the great environment and culture of the cross country team. They were always willing to go the extra mile. I’m extremely proud of them.”

Sylvia is a sophomore from Marysville High School. She plans on joining the Air Force after this semester.

“I’d like to thank coach Stallworth, my teammates, (athletic department secretary) Sheryl (Kramer), the department and my parents. It’s a huge honor,” she said.

Najor is a freshman from Capac High School who plans on joining the Army after this semester.

“I want to thank coach and the rest of my team for giving me a great season,” she said.

Kielbas is a freshman from Port Huron High School who is undecided on his future.

“All things are possible through god. I want to thank coach Stallworth and (athletic director Dale) Vos, and the people in the athletic department,” he said.
