Accuplacer
New students, or transfer students without either an English or math course that will transfer to SC4, may choose to take the Accuplacer test, especially if they didn’t take either the SAT or ACT in high school, or were dissatisfied with the results of those standardized tests.
Accuplacer is a computer-based test offered in the SC4 Testing Center. All new and transfer students are allowed to take the Accuplacer tests once at no charge. The complete Accuplacer test includes:
- Reading Comprehension – used to determine whether a student should consider taking a basic college reading course during their first semester
- Sentence Skills and Writing – used to determine the student’s initial English course placement
- Elementary Algebra/College Level Math – used to determine the student’s initial mathematics course placement
Students may also retake the Accuplacer if they feel they could improve their scores and place into a higher English or math course. There is a $10 fee for each Accuplacer retake, regardless of the number of subtests that are retaken. Students can pay the retake fee on The Pier online payment system, then call the Testing Center at (810) 989-5555 to schedule their test.
