The SC4 women’s and men’s basketball teams enjoyed a successful trip last weekend to Massachusetts and Maine.
The men’s squad went 2-0 to improve its nonconference record to 2-1 with victories over Holyoke CC (MA) 88-76, Friday, Nov. 10, and Southern Maine CC (ME) 68-62, Sunday, Nov. 12.
Coach Chris Huss’ women’s team (1-2) opened the trip with a 104-64 victory over Massasoit (MA). The Skippers dropped a 69-61 decision against Southern Maine.
Sophomores Quintin Johnson and Sam Pleszak each scored 17 points to lead coach Dale Vos’ squad against Holyoke.
In the victory over previously unbeaten Southern Maine CC, which is located in Portland, ME., Johnson turned in a strong all-around game with 23 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Sophomore Kodi Badger followed up Johnson’s effort with five points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Freshman Derrick Johnson (15) and Pleszak (11) combined for 26 points off the bench.
Harbor Beach grad McKenna Wolschleger sparked the Skippers against Massasoit with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Emily Fleischmann chipped in with 19 points and 19 rebounds, while freshman guard Brooke Junaud tossed in 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Freshman Zhiyon Mitchell (13 rebounds) and Belle Chappel added 11 and nine points, respectively.
Junaud led SC4 in the setback at Southern Maine with 15 points. Fleischmann (12) and Mitchell (10) were the only Skippers to reach double figures. Mitchell pulled down 13 rebounds. Sophomore Dyman Huss had nine points.
Following the contests at Holyoke, the players and coaches toured the Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday, Nov. 9, in Springfield, MA.
The Skippers return to action Saturday, Nov. 18, at Lansing CC. The women play at 1 p.m. followed the men at 3 p.m. The 2017-18 home opener is set for Monday, Nov. 20, starting at 5:30 p.m.
