St. Clair County Community College sophomore Erica LaBaere earned multiple honors for her recently completed volleyball season.
LaBaere was named All-Region, All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association and First-Team All-MCCAA Eastern Conference.
The middle hitter from Washington Township ranked among the nation’s best at the net, as her 107 solo blocks and 187 total blocks each placed her ninth in Division II. She also had 499 kills, which ranked 11th, and her 665 points were fourth in the nation.
Kaseka Mulomede earned a spot on the All-Freshman team and was also named Second-Team All-Conference. Sophomores Muranda Dore and Jodi Kilpela were also named Second-Team All-Conference.
The SC4 volleyball team came up short in its bid for a trip to the NJCAA Division II nationals.
The Skippers (20-19) opened the Region 12 District E tournament with a 3-2 victory over Macomb CC Thursday, Nov. 2. But later that day they were knocked into the losers bracket by Mott CC (3-0).
Coach Ray Cornwell’s squad suffered its second loss on the double-elimination event to Oakland CC (3-1) Friday, Nov. 3.
Playing in their final match at SC4 were sophomores Mackenzie Bryant, Erica VanderHaar, Muranda Dore, Jodi Kipela, Erica LaBaere and Maddy Seegraves.
Mott (29-7) captured the District E title with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Lakeland CC (OH) Saturday, Nov. 4, while No. 1-ranked Owens CC (OH) captured the District F crown with a 3-0 decision against Grand Rapids CC.
The Bears and Express are scheduled to compete in the NJCAA nationals Nov. 16-18 in Charleston, WV.
