The SC4 Skippers women’s basketball team defeated Schoolcraft College 62-56 on Tuesday night to clinch the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Eastern Conference league championship. This is the Skippers first league title since the 2014-15 season and the 15th league championship in college history. The Skippers finished the regular season with an impressive 23-3 record and have been receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rankings as one of the top teams in America.
The team begins their pursuit of a State Championship this weekend on the campus of Mott Community College in Flint. They open play against Southwestern Michigan Community College, Friday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m. A win for the Skippers will send them to the State Championship game on Saturday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. against Mid-Michigan Community College. Tickets are available at the door for both games. Prices are $8 general admission, $5 for seniors and students, and children under 10 are free.
The Skippers have earned the top seed in the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Tournament, which will also be held at Mott Community College. The team plays in the semi-final game Thursday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. against a yet to be determined opponent. The championship game will be held Saturday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. with the winner moving onto the NJCAA National Championship tournament March 18-23 in Joplin, MO.
