Testing Center

SC4’s Testing Center offers a wide range of testing services for students and the community.

The Testing Center is located on the second floor of the SC4 Welcome Center, which is at the corner of Erie and Glenwood Streets in Port Huron. Park in the northeast corner of the main campus parking lot.

Hours of operation

Winter Semester 2019

The following hours are effective through May 24, 2019.

NOTE: The Testing Center may have special hours on holidays. Please call the Center at 810-989-5555 to confirm hours on or near holidays.

  • Monday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. *
  • Tuesday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. *
  • Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hours in May 28 to June 28

  • Monday: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. *
  • Tuesday: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. *
  • Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday: Closed

Testing center is closed May 27, May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28 and July 4.

* The Testing Center is available as late as 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment only. If there are no testers scheduled, the Testing Center may close earlier than 8 p.m. All testing is done by appointment; no “walk-in” tests are done.

Please allow the necessary time to complete your test. In other words, if your test will take two hours to complete, you should schedule your test to begin at least two hours before the Testing Center closes.

Faculty may arrange other testing days and times with the Testing Center by calling 810-989-5555. Please allow adequate time for staff coverage.

Testing Center Rules

In order to ensure that all tests are taken fairly, the following items may not be taken into the Testing Center:

  • Cell phones
  • Electronic devices, including:
    • Watches and fitness bands
    • Calculators (unless specifically allowed on a test or exam)
  • Backpacksbook bagspurses, or other bags or containers
  • Coats of any kind
  • Scarvesgloves, or mittens
  • Hats or other headgear
  • Shirts or sweatshirts with deep pockets or hoods

Also, food is not allowed in the Testing Center.

Due to requirements from some of our testing providers, you may be asked to turn your pockets inside out to show that nothing is contained in them. Testing Center staff will nottouch or “frisk” test takers during the check-in process.

Only approved testing materials are allowed in the Testing Center.

Exceptions may be made for documented accommodations needs or religious reasons. Please discuss any needed exceptions with the Testing Center staff in advance of your test by calling 810-989-5555. Last-minute accommodations may not be possible.

Testing Services

SC4 uses the Accuplacer test from The College Board as an alternative method to place new students into the proper mathematics and English courses for their current skill level. Certain other courses offered by SC4 also require that a new student place into a minimum level of math and/or English in order to take the class.

SC4 periodically administers the ACT standardized examination on campus for area high school students. Call the Testing Center at 810-989-5555 or check the ACT website for upcoming administration dates.

Castle Worldwide provides testing and training design, development, and delivery services to certification and licensure organizations, corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, and trade and professional associations.

Certiport is dedicated to helping people succeed through certification. Our globally recognized credentials are aimed at enhancing individual productivity, marketability, and value.

CIW/CTC is an IT and Web technology education and certification program. The CIW core curriculum focuses on the foundational standards and job skills that enable the Internet to function, including Web design, development, security, administration, networking and databases.

The College Level Examination Program is a group of standardized tests created and administered by the College Board. These tests assess college-level knowledge in thirty-six subject areas and provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses.

SC4 no longer administers the Compass placement tests from ACT. Beginning in September 2016, we have replaced Compass with Accuplacer (see above). SC4 does, however, still accept Compass placement scores that were taken before that date, and any Compass scores already in our system (whether taken at SC4 or elsewhere) remain valid for placement.

Empco, Inc. is a Michigan based company specializing in testing services for public safety and municipal government agencies. Empco has a strong customer base in the State of Michigan and is rapidly increasing the number of customers it serves outside of Michigan.

Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) is a United States company that provides exams and other study material to help prepare student nurses for their professional licensure exam. Schools often use HESI to help predict the student’s likelihood of success in tests such as the NCLEX-RN.

The ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate is an assessment-based credential issued at four levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations.

PearsonVUE is in the global computer based testing solutions for academic, government, and professional testing programs, such as skills tests, IT certifications, and real estate licenses.

SC4 periodically administers the SAT standardized examination on campus for area high school students. Call the Testing Center at 810-989-5555 or check the College Board for upcoming administration dates.

Some of SC4’s academic departments offer the opportunity to test out of a course or obtain credit for prior knowledge or experience through a test. The Testing Center administers many of these exams.

The Testing Center proctors tests and exams for on-campus classes, allowing students to take a test at a convenient time outside of regular classroom hours. Your instructor will give you information about how and when you take these tests.

The Testing Center also proctors tests and exams for online classes that require an in-person test or exam that can’t be taken online. Your instructor will give you information about how and when you take these tests.

SC4’s Testing Center cooperates with other colleges and universities, both in Michigan and beyond, to administer and proctor tests and exams. Many of these tests are for online courses offered by another school but requiring a supervised testing environment. Your instructor for an external course will give you information about how and when you take these tests.

The ACT WorkKeys is a skills assessment test for those who are interested in or are currently working for employers that place an emphasis on the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), which is the credential achieved by those who successfully complete the exam.
