Advising

Changes to the advising process during the COVID-19 situation

The Advising office isn’t currently taking face to face appointments, but phone and online appointments are available.

Some of the information on this page will not apply to you during this period. This information is shown in gray text.

Details on SC4’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation are available at sc4.edu/coronavirus.

SC4 advisors are here to assist you as you pursue your academic goals. They are informed, compassionate and dedicated to your success.

New and transfer students

For the Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 semesters only, the requirement for new college students and those transferring from other schools to meet with an academic advisor is waived. You are still encouraged to contact an advisor if you have questions about degree and certificate programs, class selection, or other concerns. Use the “Schedule an advising appointment” button above to set up a time to talk to an advisor.

With the Testing Center closed, we are unable to administer the Accuplacer and WritePlacer placement exams. For the Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 semesters only, students will need to do Guided Self-Placement to determine their first English and mathematics courses. Click the buttons below to go to pages that explain that process:

Whether you are brand new to college or transferring in from another school, you are required to meet with an advisor for a one-hour appointment. During this appointment, you will plan classes for the first semester and learn about degree requirements. (The advising requirement is waived if you have a college degree or are taking classes for personal enrichment).

Current students

If you are a current SC4 student, you can discuss class schedules and make sure you are on track to earn your degree. These appointments generally last 30 minutes.

Transferring after SC4

Advisors are available to assist with the transfer process and help make your transfer as smooth as possible. Transfer planning appointments typically last about one hour.

Former SC4 students

Are you returning to SC4 after a break? Advisors can help you get back on track toward a degree with a one-hour appointment.
