The Skipper golf team competed Friday, Sept. 15, in the Sam Kromer Invitational at the Port Huron Elks Golf Club.
The 18-hole tournament, which was named after former SC4 athletic director and golf coach Robert “Sam” Kromer, attracted 11 teams. Mott CC won the event with a score of 288. Grand Rapids CC took second at 301 followed by Schoolcraft College at 310. The Skippers came in 10th at 331.
Freshman Hunter Brandt tied for 10th place with a 76. Following up Brandt’s performance was freshman Adam Lemoine with an 81. Rounding out the scoring were Alex Mayer (85) and Phil Lowe (89).
SC4 returns to action Monday, Sept. 18, at the Henry Ford College Invitational at Rackham Golf Club.
Volleyball
In their 2017 home opener, the Skippers suffered a 3-1 loss to Oakland CC at the Fieldhouse. It was the MCCAA Eastern Conference opener for both teams.
Fans took part in a Fan Appreciation Tailgate Party before the match.
The Skippers look to even their conference record at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, against Schoolcraft College at the Fieldhouse. They remain at home Friday, Sept. 22, for a quad against Lansing CC and Kalamazoo Valley CC. Also participating in the quad is Oakland. CC. Matches are scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
Cross country
The women’s and men’s cross-country teams ran Friday, Sept.15, in the Spartan Invitational on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing. No team scores were kept.
Josh Johnson led the Skippers with a time of 30 minutes, 22 seconds. Brandon Hughes and Johnathon are 30:43.9 and 31:09.2, respectively. For the women’s team, Audrey Sylvia turned in a time of 28:36.7. Cat Gryspeerd ran 29:53.3 and Madison Woodall 30:17.3.
SC4 travels to the Commodore Invitational at Lorain CC Friday, Sept. 22.
