The Skipper volleyball team brings a winning streak into their MCCAA Eastern Conference opener 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 against Oakland CC in the Fieldhouse.
Fans can celebrate the home opener at the Fan Appreciation Tailgate Party which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on the patio on the north side of the Fieldhouse. The party features food, refreshments, games, music and trivia contests. The volleyball team will arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a meet and greet with the fans, who can attend the match at no cost.
The Skippers (7-8) traveled to Concordia University Thursday, Sept. 7 and cruised past the junior varsity team in three games.
At the Lakeland CC Invitational Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9, coach Ray Cornwell’s squad won three consecutive games following a 3-1 loss to Sinclair CC. The Skippers defeated Cuyahoga CC 3-0, Lakeland 3-1 and Mercyhurst Northeast 3-0.
Cross country teams sweep titles
First-year cross-country coach James Frank and the Skippers celebrate the first invitational titles in school history Friday, Sept. 8.
Both the men’s and women’s squads won the Jackson College Jets Invitational in Rochester. The men finished with 29 points to beat out host Jackson (35) and Wayne County CCD (74). The women managed 31 points while Wayne County was a distant second with 65.
Brandon Hughes led the Skippers with a third-place finish in 30 minutes, 3 seconds. Right behind Hughes was Josh Johnson (fourth, 30:51), Johnathon Ridley (fifth, 31:36), Cody Sanchez (eighth, 32:31) and Remington Martin (ninth, 35:32).
For the women, Audrey Sylvia crossed the finish line third at 23:38. Madison Woodall took fourth (23:48) and Cat Gryspeerd was sixth (25:08). Rounding out the scoring was Nicole Burgess (eighth, 31:25) and Katrina Roy (10th, 35:50).
SC4 travels to East Lansing Friday, Sept. 15, to participate in the Spartan Invitational.
Rough season opener for golfers
The Skippers shot a score of 351 and finished last in the 11-team Kirtland CC Firebird Invitational Friday, Sept. 8, at White Pine Country Club.
Freshman Hunter Brandt paced the squad with a 78, which tied for 15th place. Following up Brandt’s performance was freshman Alex Mayer with a 90. Freshmen Adam Lemoine and Phil Lowe rounded out the scoring with a 91 and 92, respectively.
SC4 returns to action 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, with the Sam Kromer Invitational at the Port Huron Elks Club.
