The United States won the World Baseball Classic Wednesday night with an 8-0 win against Puerto Rico, and a former Skipper was in the dugout.
Jeff Jones, who played baseball at St. Clair County Community College, was a coach on manager Jim Leyland’s United States staff.
Jones was a member of the 1976 Skippers baseball team, which finished as national runner-up and was inducted into the Skippers Athletics Hall of Fame this past January.
He served as pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers from 2011-2015, and was a bullpen coach for the team prior to that. He pitched for the Oakland Athletics from 1980-84.
