SC4 College Housing to open doors with Grand Opening Celebration and Open House Aug. 3

PORT HURON – St. Clair County Community College is pleased to announce its College Housing Grand Opening Celebration and Open House on Friday, Aug. 3. Community members, students, faculty and alumni are invited to attend the event, which will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon and tours from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

SC4’s fully furnished College Housing facility, referred to as “The Dock,” is located in downtown Port Huron at 514 Huron Avenue. It will accommodate approximately 80 college students and resident assistants beginning in fall 2018.

SC4 is the first community college in southeastern Michigan to offer student housing. Statewide, only seven of the 28 community colleges have on-campus housing available. Michigan-based TMP Architecture designed the space and Barton Malow managed construction of the project.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to our students and community,” said SC4 President Deborah Snyder, Ph.D. “Future generations of St. Clair County Community College students will benefit greatly from the convenient access to a high-quality education, affordable cost of living and location in our thriving downtown community. We are grateful to our many partners and advocates for helping make this a reality.”

SC4 College Housing residents will enjoy a shared kitchen and dining area, a student lounge and laundry facilities as well as all-inclusive pricing that includes high-speed internet, Fieldhouse access, water, heating and air conditioning. They also will have convenient access to the area’s growing arts, entertainment and dining scene and the option to purchase a meal plan thanks to a new partnership with local restaurants and entrepreneurial startup Elevate Meal Plan.

“This is a great way for students to have a full college experience while not breaking the bank,” said College Housing Manager Nathanial Shrapnell.

The event is free and open to the public. More information about housing can be found at sc4.edu/housing.
