Miranda Shafer and Ryan Najor are each off to strong starts this season in their respective sports.
On Tuesday night, both were honored as St. Clair County Community College Athlete of the Month for September. The award was presented by MEEMIC Insurance and the Presnell Insurance Agency.
Shafer is a sophomore setter on the Skippers volleyball team. She leads the team in assists, and is coming off a freshman season in which she was named All-Region, All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association First-Team and All-Freshman Team.
She is carrying a GPA above 3.0, and plans to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism.
Najor is a freshman on the Skippers cross country team, and has placed in the top three among his teammates in each of SC4’s first four meets of the season. He helped lead the Skippers to a second-place finish on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Kirtland Firebird Invitational.
Najor had a 3.9 GPA this past winter semester at SC4 after transferring from the United States Air Force Academy. He plans to pursue a career as a math teacher.
