Thirteen St. Clair County Community College student-athletes earned Academic All-American honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Men’s golf team member Joshua Sustarich, and softball team member Taylor Westrick led the way, each being named First-Team Academic All-American. The men’s golf and volleyball teams also were honored as All-NJCAA and All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association teams for cumulative GPAs above 3.0.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment by our student-athletes,” SC4 Athletic Director and men’s golf and basketball coach Dale Vos said. “Our athletes are students first, and to see their hard work in the classroom rewarded brings a great feeling of pride to our athletic department. It’s also a credit to the support they receive from the coaches, faculty and support staff at SC4.”
Student-athletes earning First-Team status had to have a 4.0 GPA, while those earning Second-Team were between 3.8 and 3.99, and those earning Third-Team were between 3.6 and 3.79. Students needed to pass a minimum of 24 credit hours in the last academic year to be eligible.
Brittany Goodwin (volleyball), Brooke Gazdick (volleyball), Chandler Kielbas (men’s cross country), Erica VanderHaar (volleyball), Isabelle Flory (softball and women’s basketball), Larissa Crook (volleyball) and Michael Nadrowski (baseball) were named Second-Team Academic All-American.
Caitlyn Carlson (volleyball and women’s basketball), Meghan Sylvia (women’s cross country), Miranda Shafer (volleyball) and Ryan Najor (men’s cross country) were named Third-Team Academic All-American.
Twenty SC4 student-athletes were named Academic All-MCCAA: Westrick, Kielbas, Flory, Nadrowski, Jon Schlump (men’s golf), Crook, Goodwin, Gazdick, VanderHaar, Sylvia, Shafer, Najor, Carlson, Austin Snider (men’s golf), Joseph Slezak (baseball), Luke Scahill (men’s golf), Austin Schneider (baseball), Ross Rickel (baseball), Barry Marshall (baseball) and Riley Montgomery (softball).
Those 20 were part of a group of 27 SC4 student-athletes who were named Academic All-Conference. David Abraham (baseball), Caterina Gryspeerd (women’s cross country and women’s basketball), Carlie Thueme (women’s basketball), Mackenzie Bryant (volleyball), Carley Agostino (softball), Dyman Huss (women’s basketball) and Brooke Mahn (volleyball) were the seven others honored.
