PORT HURON, Mich. — St. Clair County Community College (SC4), in partnership with the St. Clair County Council on Aging, is launching a Dementia-Friendly Movie Series at the SC4 Cinema at Sperry’s, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals living with dementia and their caregivers can enjoy classic films together.
The inaugural screening will feature Singin’ in the Rain on Wednesday, July 22, at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and include admission, popcorn, and a beverage.
The series was recently announced during The Paul Miller Morning Show on 105.5 WPHM, where SC4 President Kirk Kramer welcomed Brian Larsen of the St. Clair County Council on Aging to discuss the initiative and its impact on the community.
The St. Clair County Council on Aging serves adults throughout the county by providing programs, services, and resources that promote independence, health, and quality of life. Through nutrition programs, transportation, wellness initiatives, caregiver support, and community engagement opportunities, the organization helps individuals remain active, connected, and supported. The Council on Aging also provides education and resources for individuals and families navigating dementia, making this partnership a natural extension of its commitment to supporting community members and their caregivers.
Designed with the needs of individuals living with dementia in mind, the Dementia-Friendly Movie Series offers a relaxed and supportive theater experience that encourages participation without the expectations of a traditional movie setting. The program provides caregivers and their loved ones an opportunity to enjoy a shared experience, connect with others, and build meaningful community connections in a comfortable environment.
“We’re grateful to be part of a community that comes together to support one another,” said Sarah Rutallie, Chief of Staff at St. Clair County Community College. “This special program provides caregivers and their loved ones with a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment where they can enjoy a classic film, connect with others facing similar experiences, and build meaningful community connections. The SC4 Cinema at Sperry’s was created to bring people together through shared experiences, and this partnership with the St. Clair County Council on Aging reflects our commitment to serving our community in meaningful ways.”
Community members, caregivers, family members, and anyone interested in learning more about dementia-friendly initiatives are encouraged to attend. Advance tickets are available for $5 and include the movie, popcorn, and a beverage. For tickets, showtimes, and additional information, please visit www.sc4cinema.com
