Dr. Deborah Snyder, president of St. Clair County Community College, has been honored by Blue Water Woman magazine as its Educator of the Year. She and the honorees in four other categories will be recognized at a reception Feb. 16 at McMorran Auditorium.
Dr. Snyder’s leadership at the community college was considered by the panel of judges convened by the magazine. Among the accomplishments judges considered were the college receiving the maximum 10-year accreditation approval from the Higher Learning Commission; completion of the SC4 Fieldhouse; the decision to build college-owned student housing in downtown Port Huron; and plans for a $9.8 million renovation of the college’s A.J. Theisen Building to grow health science programs.
Dr. Snyder came to SC4 in 2016 after a more than 30-year career in higher education in Michigan and throughout the U.S. She has a Ph.D. in organizational communication, a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, all from Wayne State University.
She is a native of the Blue Water Area and is a graduate of Port Huron Northern High School. She also is a former SC4 student.
Dr. Snyder was nominated for the honor by Pete Lacey, SC4’s vice president of Student Services and Communications. Lacey wrote in part, “She is a strong believer in the value of education who is continually working to improve the SC4 campus and the entire Blue Water Area.”
According to its website, Blue Water Woman magazine is the premiere quarterly publication for women living, working and playing in the Blue Water Area of Michigan. The stories and features in Blue Water Woman are written and designed to be inspirational, motivational and encouraging.
