Three St. Clair County Community College volleyball players were honored Monday when the Michigan Community College Athletic Association released its all-conference volleyball awards.
Sophomore Miranda Shafer (Norton Shores/Western Michigan Christian High School) and freshmen Erica LaBaere (Washington Twp./Romeo High School) and Jodi Kilpela (Howell/Howell High School) each brought home multiple awards for the Skippers, who ended their season with a 16-13 overall record.
Shafer and LaBaere were named All-MCCAA and All-Region XII, while Shafer and Kilpela were named First-Team All-MCCAA Eastern Conference.
LaBaere was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year, and was joined by Kilpela on the All-Freshmen Team.
Shafer finished the regular season with 465 assists, 152 digs and 27 service aces. It’s the second straight year that she has earned All-Region, All-MCCAA and All-MCCAA Eastern Conference honors.
LaBaere led the Skippers with 238 kills on the season, and her .307 hitting percentage ranked 42nd in the country. She added 56 total blocks, including 33 solos.
Kilpela finished with 298 digs on the season, adding 23 service aces.
